The inspiration for TrueSelf™ came from the experiences of Dr. Miechelle O’Brien, a practicing gastroenterologist with specialized interest in functional gastrointestinal disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Dr. O’Brien found treating her patients very frustrating because of limited therapeutic options. She was excited to learn of a large body of research, pioneered at Monash University in Australia, that found certain foods which are higher in fermentable sugars known as FODMAPs can trigger the symptoms associated with digestive discomfort. The research provided further evidence that a diet lower in FODMAPs could provide meaningful relief.
Dr. O’Brien’s own experience confirmed the research, when her patients often felt better within 1 to 2 weeks.
This success, however, led to a new problem. Going on a low FODMAP diet can be challenging, because FODMAPs are present in so many foods, and also found in the ingredients of many processed foods. Dr. O’Brien kept waiting for food companies to develop products for these patients – but they weren’t!
The lack of convenient low FODMAP foods in the marketplace inspired Dr. O’Brien to start TrueSelf™, to make low FODMAP foods that are easy to incorporate into your diet.
